The hire
Chief executive Brendan Blumer tied the hire to Schneider's range across the industry. “Lee's unique legal expertise and leadership in blockchain makes him an ideal fit for our business,” Blumer said. “His background spans many of the most important companies and projects in the space and he has practical experience on both the technology itself and its real-world applications. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team”1. Schneider answered in kind. “I'm excited to join at this critical moment in the development of blockchain technologies,” Schneider said. “Block.one is a diverse business with grand ambitions and unprecedented growth potential, and I look forward to contributing to the firm's successes”.
Block.one before and after
Schneider joined Block.one from McDermott Will & Emery, where the release said he "led both the Fintech and broker dealer practices"1. BlockTribune's independent report ran on May 14, 2018. It confirmed the mandate Block.one had announced, saying Schneider “will be responsible for all of the company's legal affairs and will be involved in its regulatory and compliance initiatives”2. Outside his law firm work, Schneider co-hosted a podcast. The biweekly show, Appetite for Disruption, paired him with former SEC commissioner Troy Paredes. He had also contributed to a securities-law framework for blockchain tokens that Coinbase developed, the release said. Schneider holds a Juris Doctor from American University's Washington College of Law and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan.
What came next
Schneider stayed at Block.one for three years. Ava Labs announced on May 27, 2021, that he had joined it as its first general counsel, and its post said that at Block.one he had played a key role in the company's token sale and several of its major projects3.
