MARA Holdings announced on August 4, 2026, that Georges Antoun had stepped down from its board, in the same release that named two new independent directors1. His exit had taken effect four days earlier, on July 31, 2026. Blockchain.News reported the same July 31, 2026 date on August 4, 2026, the day of MARA's own release2.

The move
MARA grouped Antoun's exit with Barbara Humpton's, calling both "part of a planned transition"1. Fred Thiel, MARA's chairman and chief executive, thanked Antoun directly. “On behalf of the Board and the entire Company, I would like to thank Barbara and Georges for their leadership and significant contributions to MARA,” Thiel said. “We are grateful for their service during an important period in the Company's evolution and wish them both continued success”.
Blockchain.News ran the same pairing, reporting that Craig Hart and Nancy Novak joined MARA's board "following the departure of Barbara Humpton and Georges Antoun," both dated July 31, 20262. Both sources kept the word "planned" and stopped short of naming a disagreement behind either exit.
Before and after the seat
MARA's release identified Antoun only as a director stepping down, leaving his prior title and his tenure outside the record1. The board count changed twice in two days. MARA held seven seats before July 31, 2026. The board dropped to five once Antoun and Humpton left. MARA's board returned to seven on August 1, 2026, when Hart and Novak were seated. Six of those seven seats stayed independent.
What to watch
MARA named Hart and Novak for their power-market and hyperscale data center expertise1. Whether Antoun surfaces on another public company's board, or MARA discloses a fuller account of the transition behind his exit, would show how much of "planned" was his own choice and how much the board's timing.
