Patrick Hillmann posted his exit from Binance at 22:18 UTC on July 6, 2023. “It's true that I am leaving @Binance, but I'm doing so on good terms,” Hillmann wrote. “I continue to respect and support @cz_binance and am grateful for having had the incredible opportunity to work under his leadership.” Fortune had reported earlier on July 6 that Hillmann, general counsel Han Ng and compliance chief Steven Christie were departing the exchange. The decisions traced to founder Changpeng Zhao 's handling of a U.S. Department of Justice investigation, CoinDesk wrote, citing the Fortune report. On July 14, 2023, eight days later, CoinDesk reported that Binance had cut more than 1,000 jobs, citing a source who spoke to the Wall Street Journal.
