Peter Schiff called a Bitcoin crash on X. He posted the warning at 16:41 UTC on Oct. 24, 2026, right after Bitcoin slipped under $80,0001. The post named $75,000 as the next stop, and warned of a rough weekend for anyone holding a bitcoin ETF. Bitcoin fell to $79,200 that weekend, short of his floor, per crypto.news3. It climbed back fast. By Sunday afternoon it traded at $80,700 on CoinGecko, more than $5,700 above the number Schiff named5.
Peter Schiff@PeterSchiffBitcoin is finally breaking down. It's hard to believe it's held up this long. Now that it's below $80K, the next stop is likely $75K. If that level fails to hold today, it's going to be a very long weekend for Bitcoiners, especially for ETF investors who can't sell until Monday.
Schiff's Case for $75,000
Peter Schiff runs Euro Pacific Asset Management, a firm built on gold instead of stocks. CryptoPotato calls him "the goldbug" for that habit, and for the warnings that travel with it4. He has made that case on financial television and on X for years. Saturday's post followed the same script he has used since 2018.
CryptoPotato's own framing put it plainly. The outlet asked whether a bitcoin correction even counts as one if Schiff stays quiet through it4. His post landed the same hour Bitcoin broke below $80,000.

Bitcoin had just touched a five-week low near $79,000 when Schiff posted, its weakest price since Sept. 18, 20264. Schiff's full post read: “Bitcoin is finally breaking down. It's hard to believe it's held up this long. Now that it's below $80K, the next stop is likely $75K. If that level fails to hold today, it's going to be a very long weekend for Bitcoiners, especially for ETF investors who can't sell until Monday”1.
Schiff's post carried two figures1. $75,000 marked the floor he expected Bitcoin to test. Monday marked the day ETF holders could finally sell again. Both figures gave his followers something to check once the weekend ended.
The Rebound by the Numbers
Bitcoin's low stayed close to Schiff's floor, yet short of it. crypto.news put that low at $79,2003. That sits $4,200 above $75,000, short of the crash Schiff named.
CryptoPotato reported Bitcoin touched $81,000 on its climb back4. It settled above $80,000 anyway, at $80,700 on CoinGecko by 17:00 UTC Sunday5. That gap ran $5,700 above Schiff's target.

Traders kept adding leverage through the swing. AMBCrypto, reporting for KuCoin News, counted $400 million in long liquidations in a single day7. Open interest climbed back toward the highs it held during Bitcoin's earlier rally near $87,000. More short positions built in than before. Traders seemed to expect the drop to continue, even as the price turned higher.
AMBCrypto raised a counterweight to that same crowd7. Too many short bets packed into one trade can force their own squeeze. That kind of rebound comes from bears closing positions, rather than new buyers stepping in. Either story fits the same chart. Only the week ahead sorts out which one was true.
Schiff's weekend deadline mattered for a simple reason. Spot bitcoin ETFs trade on American exchanges, closed Saturday and Sunday. An ETF holder who wanted out Saturday had to wait for Monday's opening bell before placing the order.

Woo Reads the Post as a Signal
Analyst Willy Woo posted a different reading nine hours later. He replied directly under Schiff's post at 00:10 UTC on Oct. 252. “Peter is immensely valuable to the BTC community as a counter signal. This post alone gives odds of BTC bouncing off 80k at 70%,” Woo wrote.

Woo turned Schiff's warning into a forecast of his own. A well-known bear calling a bottom, in his reading, counts as a buy signal on its own terms. His 70 percent figure rested on that pattern alone, ahead of any price data to back it. Bitcoin's own path over the following day gave his number a chance to prove out. The climb that followed fit his bet better than Schiff's.
Woo's framing treats fear itself as information. A crowd that already believes one trader's gloom, in his view, has already priced in the bad news. The next move, by that logic, belongs to whoever is left to sell.
The Record Behind the Call
Some bearish calls age worse than others. CryptoPotato's own count of Schiff's record runs long4. He called a drop to $750 in 2018. Two years later, he said Bitcoin would stay under $50,000 forever. It passed that mark in 2021. That same year, he said Bitcoin was heading toward zero for good. He repeated the $50,000 ceiling call in 2022. Bitcoin recovered anyway. By 2024, he warned a bitcoin ETF approval would trigger a crash. More than $55 billion has moved into those ETFs since then. Five different years, five different numbers, the same direction every time.
That record is why Woo treats a Schiff post as a reverse indicator. It is also why this weekend's bounce fit the pattern Woo expected before Bitcoin ever turned higher. A single post rarely moves a market on its own. Five straight misses give that post a following anyway.

What the Dip Still Shows
Schiff's number missed. The weakness behind it was real. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs had already shed $773.4 million over two trading days before his post, crypto.news reported3. Thursday, Oct. 22, accounted for $635.5 million of that total. Friday, Oct. 23, added $137.9 million more.

Bitcoin's own low, $79,200, sat within $4,200 of Schiff's $75,000 floor, close enough to keep traders watching through the weekend. Analyst Benjamin Cowen named his own line for the week. A close below $83,000 would strengthen his case for a weaker Bitcoin through the rest of 2026, BeInCrypto reported6. The Federal Reserve meets Oct. 27 and 28, with inflation data due Oct. 29. AMBCrypto named both as the week's bigger risk, bigger than any single weekend post7. Big Tech's own earnings, including reports from Google and Amazon, land in the same stretch. That adds one more event to a calendar already crowded with risk.
AMBCrypto also flagged a seasonal pattern some traders watch every two years. Bitcoin has fallen between 27 percent and 72 percent before past midterm elections, the outlet reported7. That range covers everything from a mild pullback to a real crash. On its own, it settles little about $75,000.
A bounce past $80,000 settles the weekend. It settles little about the month ahead.
Schiff's post gave the weekend a number to argue over. The ETF outflows, the Fed meeting and the seasonal pattern gave it a reason to stay tense on their own.

What to watch
Watch the Federal Reserve's meeting on Oct. 27 and 28, the next scheduled event big enough to move Bitcoin's price either way7. The ETF flow data deserves a look too. A third straight day of outflows would back Schiff's reasoning more than his number ever did. The $75,000 line itself still deserves attention. Schiff named that line for a reason, and it stays open as his one unmet target.
