The move
Levin trained as an economist. He began studying crypto more than a decade before the move, and co-founded Chainalysis with Gronager in 2014, the company's own post said1. Congress has heard his testimony on blockchain and national security. Chainalysis' announcement called him “a trusted advisor to the largest companies and governments globally on the opportunities and risks of cryptocurrencies”. CoinDesk reported that Levin pointed to political tailwinds as the firm's near-term opening. “What the company needs right now, given all of the excitement in the market and the strong financial position of Chainalysis, is to be a market leader for our customers and to take bets on broadening the platform,” Levin told CoinDesk, citing the incoming U.S. administration's "pro-crypto talk"2.
Chainalysis' leadership before and after
Gronager gave a statement in Chainalysis' own announcement. He said he remained "incredibly proud of what Chainalysis has achieved"1. CoinDesk reported that Levin stayed quiet on the reasons for Gronager's exit. He said only that the board and Gronager had agreed it was time for a change2. Levin also declined to say when, or whether, Chainalysis might go public. Sari Granat had served as interim chief executive since Gronager went on leave. She returned to her old role as president and chief operating officer, Chainalysis said. The board separately added Paul Auvil, a former Proofpoint and VMware chief financial officer, as an independent director and audit committee chair.
What came next
Chainalysis closed its first acquisition under Levin on Dec. 18, 2024, buying the Israeli security startup Hexagate for close to $60 million, Ctech reported3. Levin still held the chief executive title on July 1, 2026, when Quartz credited him with it as he spoke about blockchain intelligence agents at the HumanX conference4. That appearance came nearly 19 months after the board named him CEO on Dec. 5, 2024.
