“Pascal St-Jean, already Coincheck Group's chief executive and president, added executive chairperson on September 17, 2026, the day Takashi Oyagi resigned. Does stacking three titles on one executive concentrate power, or fill a sudden vacancy?”

Pascal St-Jean added the executive chairperson title at Coincheck Group on September 17, 2026. Takashi Oyagi gave up the role that same day1. St-Jean keeps his existing titles too. He stays chief executive and president while he picks up the board seat Oyagi left.

Coincheck Group N.V. filed the news through Business Wire on September 17, 2026, and paired the two moves in one release1. Reuters, carried through Investing.com, described St-Jean as taking the chairperson role "while continuing his duties as CEO and President"2. Oki Matsumoto, the lead director on Coincheck Group's board, named St-Jean directly in that statement. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank Takashi for his invaluable contributions to Coincheck Group. Takashi's leadership has been instrumental in driving meaningful transformation across the company and its subsidiaries, and we are deeply grateful. I am confident that Pascal and Satoshi will ensure a smooth transition,” Matsumoto said.

What St-Jean held before and after

St-Jean ran Coincheck Group as chief executive and president before September 17, 2026. Oyagi alone held the chairperson title until he quit it1. The chairperson seat now sits on top of both of St-Jean's older roles. Matsumoto's statement speaks of "a smooth transition" and leaves the arrangement's length open. Satoshi Hasuo, the chief stakeholder officer, took the other open seat the same release created, becoming temporary replacement executive director. Coincheck Group trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker CNCK and runs a retail crypto exchange in Japan. Custody, staking and asset-management work for institutions sits on top of that exchange base.

      What to watch

Coincheck Group's shareholders met on September 25, 2026, in Amsterdam3. Shareholders kept the board for another one-year term, reappointed KPMG as auditor and let the board issue up to 63 million new shares, a TipRanks summary of the filing said on September 29, 2026. That summary leaves open how long St-Jean keeps all three titles. A later filing naming a separate chairperson would answer that question. So would a public statement explaining the stack of titles.
