“Takashi Oyagi resigned as Coincheck Group's executive chairperson on September 17, 2026, and his re-election came off the ballot eight days before the vote. Does a resignation that fast settle why Takashi Oyagi left, or just when?”

Takashi Oyagi quit two jobs at once. He gave up his seats as Coincheck Group's executive director and executive chairperson on September 17, 2026, telling the board that morning, and Coincheck Group announced the news the same day1. His name now skips the vote at Coincheck Group's annual meeting on September 25, 2026. The agenda item covering his re-election is gone.

Coincheck Group N.V. filed its announcement through Business Wire on September 17, 2026. The release left the reason for the resignation out1. Reuters, carried through Investing.com, backed up the timing on September 17, 20262. Oki Matsumoto, the lead director on Coincheck Group's board, spoke for the board in that release. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to thank Takashi for his invaluable contributions to Coincheck Group. Takashi's leadership has been instrumental in driving meaningful transformation across the company and its subsidiaries, and we are deeply grateful,” Matsumoto said.

What the board did on September 17, 2026

Oyagi's exit left two jobs open at once. Coincheck Group filled both on September 17, 20261. Pascal St-Jean already held the titles of chief executive and president, and he added executive chairperson on top of them. Satoshi Hasuo, the chief stakeholder officer, took the executive director seat on a temporary basis. Matsumoto called the pairing a plan for "a smooth transition". Coincheck Group trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker CNCK, and it runs a retail crypto exchange in Japan that it wants to pair with custody, staking and money-management work for big institutions.

      What to watch

Coincheck Group's shareholders met on September 25, 2026, in Amsterdam, with Oyagi's re-election off the agenda13. Shareholders confirmed the company's board for another one-year term, according to a TipRanks summary of the company's filing published on September 29, 2026. Hasuo holds his new seat on a temporary basis, the release said. A filing that names a permanent successor to the executive director seat would close the question Oyagi's resignation left open.
