“Matt Morris had worked with CoinShares' finance team for fourteen months before the company made him chief financial officer on Oct. 1, 2026. Does a succession planned before a Nasdaq listing count as continuity or as a company picking its own successor?”

CoinShares PLC named Matt Morris its chief financial officer effective immediately on Oct. 1, 2026, the Nasdaq-listed asset manager said in a press release1. Morris succeeds Richard Nash, who had held the CFO title since 2019. Nash will stay on as a senior member of the chief executive's office. The new CFO described his own path into the role. “Having worked closely with CoinShares and its finance team throughout the Company's transition to the U.S. public markets, I have had the opportunity to understand both the strength of the platform that Richard and the team have built and the opportunity ahead of us,” he said.

      The move

CoinShares called the appointment the end of a process set in motion well before Morris took the title. Jean-Marie Mognetti, the company's co-founder, president and chief executive, said the move was “the culmination of a succession process we began well before our listing in New York.” He added that Morris comes into the role “already knowing our business, our numbers, our systems and, importantly, our people”1.

Why hand the CFO seat to someone who had worked with the finance team for only fourteen months? Morris had worked with CoinShares since August 2025. He started as managing director at Centri Business Consulting, where he led the advisory work on the company's U.S. listing, then became deputy chief financial officer in August 2026, the release said1. In that stretch he worked alongside Nash through CoinShares' move from IFRS to U.S. GAAP and its Nasdaq listing.

      CoinShares before and after

Nash had led CoinShares' finance function since 2019. The release credited his tenure with CoinShares' 2021 listing on Nasdaq Stockholm and its later move to U.S. GAAP and PCAOB reporting1. Mognetti credited him with completing three public listings and building the reporting infrastructure CoinShares runs today. Nash framed his own exit from the CFO chair as continuity rather than departure. “Matt has worked closely with the finance team throughout our transition to the U.S. public markets and understands both the organization and the reporting environment exceptionally well. I look forward to continuing to support Matt, Jean-Marie and the Company in my new role,” he said. Morris, a U.S. certified public accountant, spent more than fourteen years in public-company accounting before joining CoinShares. His stops included Centri Business Consulting, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers, the release said. He now reports directly to Mognetti and oversees CoinShares' global finance organization, its SEC filings and its investor communications.

      What to watch

CoinShares said it expects to report third-quarter 2026 results in November, with Morris leading that reporting process and joining the results call for the first time as CFO1. That call is the first public test of his new title. The Manila Times republished the same release on Oct. 2. That copy carried only CoinShares' own account, so the November results call stands as the next independent marker of how the transition is going2.
