“Alex Ioffe stepped down as Galaxy Digital's chief financial officer on December 13, 2024, after nearly four years, and Galaxy named Point72 finance executive Tony Paquette to succeed him while it waited on a U.S. listing it had sought for nearly two years. Does a Wall Street CFO's résumé matter more once a crypto firm is headed for a U.S. listing?”

Galaxy Digital Holdings named Tony Paquette chief financial officer on December 13, 2024, ending Alex Ioffe's nearly four years in the seat. Ioffe transitions to a senior advisor role on January 1, 20251. Paquette joins from Steve Cohen's hedge fund Point72. There, Galaxy's release said, he spent four years overseeing global finance, treasury and broker relations.

      The move

Michael Novogratz, Galaxy's founder and chief executive, credited Ioffe's tenure in the same release that announced his successor. “I want to express my gratitude to Alex for building a robust finance team that has helped to prepare Galaxy for a potential U.S. listing,” Novogratz said. “In his nearly four years with Galaxy, Alex helped the company navigate through periods of unprecedented growth and market turbulence,” he said1. Paquette answered with his own framing of the opportunity. “I am thrilled to join Galaxy, whose reputation as a world-class operator and investor in digital assets, digital infrastructure and other emerging technologies precedes it,” Paquette said. “I look forward to expanding upon Galaxy's best-in-class finance team and helping further cement the firm as the preeminent industry leader,” he said.

CoinDesk reported on December 13, 2024, that the Toronto-listed Galaxy Digital had been trying to list in the United States. Galaxy Digital was "still awaiting approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission" to move its headquarters from the Cayman Islands to Delaware, a filing it made in February 2023, the outlet wrote2.

      Galaxy before and after

Before the change, Ioffe had run Galaxy's finance organization. Novogratz called that stretch "periods of unprecedented growth and market turbulence"1. Paquette brought 25 years of financial services and fintech experience. He had worked as a business unit leader at SoFi, spent nearly a decade as a managing director at JPMorgan Chase, and held an earlier post at Bank of America's Corporate Investments Group and Treasury division, the release said. Paquette also sits on the boards of Scholars of Finance, Junior Achievement of New York and the Concussion Legacy Foundation.

      What came next

Paquette remained Galaxy's chief financial officer well past the transition his hire announced. Galaxy held its second-quarter 2026 earnings call on August 5, 2026, more than a year and a half after he took the role3. Paquette walked analysts through the numbers as CFO. “As in previous quarters, I'll start by walking through our consolidated financials, then dive into our operating businesses before turning it over to Chris to go into a bit more detail on data centers,” he told the call.
