Hedera Hashgraph named Lionel Chocron chief product officer on Feb. 6, 2019, hiring him away from Oracle, the company said in a press release1. At Oracle, Chocron had led emerging-technology work in blockchain, the internet of things and artificial intelligence. Crowdfund Insider confirmed the hire on Feb. 6, 2019, noting that Oracle ranks as roughly the second-largest software provider in the world by some measures2.

The move
Chocron arrived with company. Hedera's release said it had “also appointed Atul Mahamuni as Senior Vice President of Products and Nigel Clark as Senior Vice President of Partners and Industries” in the same announcement1. Mance Harmon, Hedera's co-founder and chief executive, explained the hiring push in terms of enterprise ambition. "Hedera's mission is to build the industry's first enterprise-grade platform," Harmon said. “Lionel has deep expertise in understanding the needs of enterprises, incubating solutions, and bringing them to market through appropriate channels to drive adoption. We are thrilled to have Lionel, Atul, and Nigel on board as we continue our rollout of a platform designed to be robust enough to run the most mission-critical applications”.
Hedera before and after
Chocron brought a path through enterprise technology and consulting. Before Oracle, he was vice president and general manager at Cisco. There, he "co-launched, productized, and scaled Cisco's fast-growing Internet of Things (IoT) business," Hedera's release said1. Earlier, he held roles at A.T. Kearney, Bain & Company and BNP Paribas. He holds an MBA from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. His engineering degrees followed: a master's from McGill University and a bachelor's from Ecole des Mines.
What came next
Chocron still held the job a year later. Enterprise Times reported on February 11, 2020, that Hedera Hashgraph was partnering with the accounting firm Armanino on its TrustExplorer tool, which gives auditors data on accounts holding HBAR, Hedera's token, and it quoted Chocron as Hedera's chief product officer3. “Distributed ledger technology has the power to introduce unprecedented transparency, security, and performance to a myriad of industries; however, for ecosystem participants and their auditors, interacting with DLTs and extracting their data can present significant inefficiencies,” Chocron said.
