The move
Robbie Ferguson, Immutable's president and co-founder, tied the hires to a broader talent push. “Together with recent hires like David, Immutable is building one of the highest talent bars in the space,” Ferguson said in the release1. The Block placed the hire inside a wider pattern. Ferreira, the new chief marketing officer, had come from Ava Labs, the company behind the Avalanche blockchain2.
Ferguson's own quote singled out Bicknell by name, rather than the hiring round as a whole1. The Block gave both new titles equal weight in its own account, treating the pair as one item of company news2.
What Bicknell had run before
Two of Silicon Valley's largest companies trained him before Immutable hired him. At Meta, he held the title of finance director and ran finance and business operations for the Facebook App, a single product inside Meta's broader company1. Before Meta, he worked at Twitter as its leader of engineering and product finance. In that job, the release said, he supported the company's product portfolio and infrastructure spending.
What came next
Bicknell quit Immutable on Friday, May 23, 2025, according to The Australian Financial Review's report published the following Monday, May 26, 20253. He held the dual title of chief financial officer and interim chief commercial officer by the time he left. Chief legal officer Ed Bunting quit on May 23, 2025, too, the newspaper said. Immutable moved to fill the role his exit left open. "James Gordon is to replace Bicknell as head of commercial," an Immutable spokesman told the Financial Review, which added that the company called itself "in a strong financial position" despite the departures. The spokesman described the year's turnover as ordinary, saying Immutable had "a remarkably stable leadership team since its foundation" and that each departing executive "moved on for their own individual reasons".
