“io.net moved co-founder Tory Green from chief executive to chair of the io.net Foundation on April 23, 2025, and handed the company to its chief technology officer, Gaurav Sharma. Does separating a foundation's advocacy from a company's engineering strengthen a decentralized network or just rename who runs it?”

io.net announced on April 23, 2025, that co-founder Tory Green would become chairperson of the io.net Foundation, while Gaurav Sharma, then the company's chief technology officer, would take over as chief executive1. Decrypt republished the announcement on April 23, 20252. Green had held the CEO title since June 2024, when he replaced co-founder Ahmad Shadid.

      The move

Green described the foundation's purpose in his own words. "The need for decentralization in AI has never been more urgent," said Green, who took the title Chairperson of the IOG Foundation. “The Foundation will push for open, equitable infrastructure that allows AI to scale in a way that benefits everyone - not just the few. I'm excited to lead this work and support the builders who are making that future possible,” Green said1.

Sharma answered in the same release with his own account of the handoff. “From day one, we've been building the decentralised infrastructure layer for AI - something the world desperately needs,” said Sharma. “I'm proud to take on this role with an exceptional team beside me,” he said2. The release said Sharma would continue alongside co-founder and chief operating officer Basem Oubah as the company entered "a new phase of growth".

      Before and after at io.net

Sharma's engineering record anchored the announcement. The release credited him as "the technical force behind the company's decentralised cloud platform," naming his work on IO Cloud and IO Intelligence1. Sharma held senior engineering roles at Binance, Agoda and Amazon before joining io.net. At each one, the release said, he helped build and scale global platforms handling billions of transactions. Green's new post ran beside Sharma's rather than above it. The release said the pair would host a joint audio session on io.net's X profile on April 29, 2025.

      What came next

Sharma still ran io.net nearly fourteen months after the handoff: a press release io.net distributed through CoinDesk on June 11, 2026 quoted him as chief executive announcing a new token-burn program tied to customer revenue. “Most token economies in our space are still built around the hope that prices go up. Ours is built around the certainty that people are paying to use the network. That's a fundamentally different foundation,” said Sharma, identified in the release as CEO of io.net3. The same release said io.net had closed an $8 million enterprise contract, its largest to date, and was processing over 4 billion AI inference tokens per day.
