On June 28, 2023, at 18:43 UTC, Jayson Hobby posted, “Today I am excited to announce that I will be stepping up as CEO of Compound Labs.” Two hours earlier, at 16:43 UTC, founder Robert Leshner had announced a new company of his own, Superstate, whose “mission is to create regulated financial products that bridge traditional markets & blockchain ecosystems.” The Defiant reported on July 6 that Leshner had started Compound Labs in 2017 and had left to build Superstate with four other alumni of the company. Hobby, by the same report, "started at Compound Labs as its head of design" and left The Defiant's emailed requests for comment unanswered.
