The Algorand Foundation announced on Sept. 9, 2026 that William Herkelrath had become its chief executive officer on Aug. 31, succeeding Staci Warden after nearly five years. Two directors left the board in the same announcement, Rebecca Rettig and Michael Mosier , and two arrived, Herkelrath himself and Alex Fowler , chief strategy officer at Nexus Laboratories. Rettig and Mosier had joined on Jan. 14, 2026, a tenure of just under eight months. Why would a Foundation that had just moved its headquarters back to Delaware swap its chief executive and two of its five directors inside a year? The release answers in its subhead, which names institutional adoption and post-quantum resilience.
