A little something that's not mentioned, and ppl may not even think about:

Binance did not borrow money
Binance did not sell assets
Binance did not raise money

Binance covered from its balance sheet.

This differs from other incidents that people keep wanting to compare to. 🙏 https://t.co/AInCqlkLJ5

The take

Binance lost $6.36 billion in a hack on Oct. 29, 2026. The exchange promised to cover every dollar. On Nov. 2, cofounder Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, added new detail. He said Binance skipped borrowing money. Binance also kept every asset, he said. Fresh fundraising stayed off the table too. Instead, Binance paid from its own balance sheet. A balance sheet lists what a company owns and owes. CZ said this sets Binance apart from other collapses people compare it to. Those comparisons often point to FTX. FTX collapsed in 2022. FTX spent customer money to cover its own bad bets. Binance says it spent its own money instead. Outside numbers back part of this claim. Tether froze $1.57 billion tied to the hack on Oct. 29. Circle froze $823 million that same night. Those freezes locked up stolen stablecoins fast. By Oct. 30, TRM Labs counted $2.7 billion frozen in total. That was 42% of the stolen funds. By Nov. 2, Elliptic still tracked $3.24 billion sitting in hacker wallets. Most of that sits in bitcoin and ether. Those coins move on public blockchains. A blockchain is a shared list of transactions anyone can check. Public blockchain coins stay outside any company's reach. So CZ's balance sheet claim holds up for stablecoins. It leaves out the billions still sitting with the hacker. The post drew 9,908 likes in hours. It drew 1,150 replies too. That reach shows trust still rides on one founder's word. Binance cofounder Yi He made a similar point that same day. She said fraudulent exchanges hide their books. Binance keeps its books open, she said. Binance says it holds $171 billion in total assets. Customers pulled $3.64 billion of that after the hack. That is close to 2% of the total. A hack this size once ended companies outright. This one turned into a public math lesson instead.

The take

Binance founder posted again within minutes. Changpeng Zhao goes by CZ. He said Binance set aside all the hack funds. He said 5% still needs changing into smaller coins. Small coins take more time, he said. The claim follows Binance's big hack. That hack hit on Oct. 29, 2026. Hackers drained $6.36 billion in minutes. Binance promised to cover every dollar. CZ's new post tries to show that promise stands. Outside trackers tell a mixed story. TRM Labs counted $2.7 billion frozen by Oct. 30. That was 42% of the stolen total. Tether and Circle froze most of that fast. Elliptic still tracked $3.24 billion unmoved by Nov. 2. Most of that sits in bitcoin and ether. Those coins move on open chains. A firm can freeze a stablecoin fast. A firm has a hard time freezing bitcoin. So saved funds and frozen funds differ here. Saved means Binance set money aside. Frozen means outside firms blocked stolen coins. The hacker's coins stay outside direct control. CZ's post drew 3,241 likes fast. It drew 263 reposts too. It drew 452 replies too. That reach shows how closely crypto fans watch Binance. Binance says it holds $171 billion in assets. The hack cost $6.36 billion of that. Users pulled $3.64 billion more right after. That pullback equals about 2% of its assets. Most users stayed, based on that math. A founder's word still moves markets fast. Outside numbers move much slower. They tell a longer story. The hack stays open. Binance calls its own math settled anyway. Binance founder Yi He posted earlier that same day. She said fraud hides inside closed books. She said Binance keeps its books open. That claim invites outside checks too. Readers can check both claims against public trackers.

What it says about us

A recovery claim moves faster than outside trackers can confirm it.

The take

A popular crypto account posted a scary headline. This was on Nov. 2. Crypto Rover told followers $700 billion left the US stock market. The post blamed Iran. It said Iran threatened new strikes on US bases. It said this happened in the last two and a half hours. The post drew 3,698 likes fast. It drew 124 replies too. That reach shows how fast a scary number can travel. Real market data tells a calmer story. The S&P 500 closed down just 0.51% that day. It landed at 7,541.40 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.41%. It gained 213.67 points. It reached 51,983.98. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.07%. It closed at 25,164.36. Those numbers fall short of a $700 billion wipeout. A small move on a big market still means real money. It still falls short of the crash the post named. Iran did make new threats that week. Those threats worried traders during the day. Stocks still closed mixed. The close stayed calm by the final bell. Crypto markets felt some of that worry too. Bitcoin traded near $78,000 that same Monday. That counts as a small dip. It falls far short of a crash. A viral claim and the closing bell often disagree. Crypto Twitter often moves on fear first. A scary post spreads in minutes. A market close takes hours to confirm it. Traders shared the panic before anyone checked real numbers. That pattern shows how crypto fans read news now. Speed often beats accuracy here. A calm post with real numbers rarely gets this many eyes. The louder claim still wins the feed. It wins even when the tape disagrees. Markets often look calmer than headlines claim.

What it says about us

A viral crash claim spread faster than the market's real numbers did.

The take

Brazil's biggest crypto exchange had a rough day. Mercado Bitcoin posted an update on Nov. 2. It said it found a safety problem. It said it moved fast. It said it stopped the problem. It said customers kept their funds. It said customer data stayed safe. To stay safe, it paused all withdrawals. It paused deposits too. The post went out at 12:56 UTC. It drew 1,275 likes fast. It drew 156 replies too. Outside trackers soon flagged bigger numbers. Safety firm Hypernative found odd transfers. Those transfers totaled $40 million. They crossed many blockchains. Hackers often target hot wallets first. A hot wallet stays online all the time. That makes it fast to use. It also makes it simple to attack. Cold wallets stay offline instead. They move slower, but hackers reach them less often. Mercado Bitcoin left out which wallet type broke. The biggest moves hit between 6:19 and 6:53 UTC. Several big chains saw money leave. Mercado Bitcoin has yet to confirm that full number. Tether moved fast too. Tether froze over $4.5 million in USDT. That freeze came hours after the breach post. This breach hit four days after Binance's hack. That Binance hack cost $6.3 billion. It hit the world's biggest crypto exchange. This new breach hit Brazil's biggest exchange instead. Two big exchanges. Two breaches. One same week. That pattern raises real questions. Crypto users trust exchanges to hold their coins. Each new breach tests that trust again. Mercado Bitcoin says its core promise still holds. Funds stay safe, it says. Data stays private, it says. A full review will test that promise. For now, the exchange stays paused. Teams keep digging through the damage. Brazil's crypto users wait for real answers. So do the people still watching Binance.

What it says about us

A second exchange breach in days renews doubts about hot wallets.

The take

Tether's boss posted a short update. This was on Nov. 2. Paolo Ardoino said Tether froze over $4.5 million in USDT. He tied that freeze to the Mercado Bitcoin breach. Mercado Bitcoin is Brazil's top crypto exchange. The exchange had just posted about a safety problem. His post came about two hours later. It drew 852 likes fast. It drew 51 replies too. Freezing coins fast is now Tether's first move. Tether moved much bigger just days earlier. Binance lost $6.3 billion in a hack on Oct. 29. Tether froze $1.57 billion in USDT that same night. That freeze dwarfs this week's $4.5 million by far. The size gap shows how far apart these two breaches sit. A safety firm flagged $40 million in odd transfers. Those transfers crossed many chains. They moved within hours of the breach. Tether's small freeze covers just a slice of that total. USDT moves value fast across those chains. A stablecoin holds a steady dollar value. Bitcoin and ether swing in value instead. That steady value makes USDT a common target for thieves. Freezing it fast can trap stolen funds in place. His quick post shows a pattern crypto users now expect. A breach happens. That firm responds within hours. Trust builds fast, even when the dollar count stays small. Tether's own name rides on acting fast every time. One missed freeze could cost it that trust fast. For now, Tether keeps showing up first after each big breach. The exchange left out which wallet type broke. That gap leaves room for outside guesses. Crypto users now expect that gap to close fast. This breach was smaller than Binance's. The next one might test Tether's speed again.

What it says about us

Stablecoin issuers now react to breaches in minutes, a new norm.
