Bit Digital, Inc. named Brock Pierce, chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation, to its board of directors on Sept. 28, 2021, effective Oct. 31, 2021, the Nasdaq-listed bitcoin miner said in a press release12. Pierce described the company in his own words. “Bit Digital is a leader of the publicly-listed mining sector, both in terms of its current fleet size, and in its commitment to becoming carbon-neutral. I look forward to serving its board, and contributing my experience to this innovative company,” he said.

The move
Sam Tabar, Bit Digital's chief strategy officer, tied the appointment to geography rather than to any single credential. “Brock is a towering figure in the Bitcoin community, and has added enormous value since serving as our Advisor. We value his leadership as we move forward with our growth plans in North America,” Tabar said1. The release called the seat "a major step in completing our transition to North America" and named Pierce the company's "first US-based director".
Why frame a board seat as a move between continents? Bit Digital had been shifting its mining operations and management team toward North America through 2021, and the release linked Pierce's arrival directly to that shift rather than to a specific skill he would bring1. Pierce had already worked with the company as an advisor before the board seat, Tabar's quote said.
Bit Digital before and after
Pierce arrived with a long record in the sector. The release credited him as chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation, co-founder of EOS Alliance, Block.one, Blockchain Capital, Tether and Mastercoin, and a seed investor in BitFury through Blockchain Capital1. It also said he had run "one of the world's first large scale mining operations" for KNC in China and had established the largest bitcoin mining operation in Washington state in the industry's early days. At the time, Bit Digital described itself as a bitcoin mining company "with one of the largest currently owned fleets among US-listed miners".
What came next
On July 29, 2026, nearly five years after Pierce joined the board, Bit Digital's shareholders reelected all five director nominees, Pierce among them, with the vote "reaffirming existing leadership," according to TipRanks3. The same meeting adopted the 2026 Omnibus Equity Incentive Plan and ratified Audit Alliance, LLP as the company's auditor for the year. Bit Digital's own profile had shifted in that time, describing itself by 2026 as a company built on “an Ethereum-native treasury and institutional staking strategies, alongside a growing footprint in AI” rather than on mining alone2.
