“Circle filed Adam Selipsky's board appointment with the SEC on July 22, 2025; Circle's release credited the former Amazon Web Services chief executive with helping scale AWS into a business of more than $100 billion. Does a cloud infrastructure resume translate to a stablecoin issuer's boardroom?”

Circle Internet Group named Adam Selipsky to its board of directors on July 22, 2025, a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission said1. Selipsky had served as chief executive of Amazon Web Services, which the filing said he helped scale "into a $100B+ business". Yahoo Finance reported on July 24, 2025, that the appointment grew Circle's board from eight members to nine, with Selipsky serving on both the Audit and Strategy Committees2.

      The move

Circle's own release named the reason for the hire. Jeremy Allaire, Circle's chairman, co-founder and chief executive, said Selipsky's background would help the company “continue to build its own internet platform infrastructure for powering the new internet financial system”1. Selipsky answered in the same release. “I'm honored to join Circle's Board at such a pivotal time in the evolution of the internet and in the development of Circle's internet platform infrastructure,” said Adam Selipsky. “Circle has the potential to power the financial and economic infrastructure for many of the world's leading corporations and institutions, and I look forward to working with Jeremy and the leadership team on the next phase of the journey.”

Yahoo Finance's July 24, 2025 report added that Selipsky would hold his Class III director seat until 2028 or until a successor is appointed. The board confirmed his independence under New York Stock Exchange standards2.

      Selipsky's record before the seat

Before AWS, Selipsky was president and chief executive of Tableau Software. The release said he led that company through its acquisition by Salesforce1. Earlier in his career he held senior roles at Amazon, RealNetworks and Mercer Management Consulting. He had already served on the boards of AWS and Tableau. His degrees are an A.B. from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

      What came next

DataCenterDynamics reported on September 3, 2025, that investment firm KKR had named Selipsky a senior advisor for technology and AI strategy. He would "advise on strategy, capital allocation, and governance" for the firm's $179 billion Real Assets business3. KKR partner Waldemar Szlezak called the appointment "a pivotal step" in the firm's plan to combine its data center, energy and digital infrastructure investments. Selipsky described the move in his own words. “I'm excited to collaborate with Waldemar and the team to build on that foundation and position KKR as the world's leading AI infrastructure investor,” Selipsky said.
