The move
Ostling's EY career spanned accounting, auditing and risk work for public and private clients, Circle's release said1. In London, she served as deputy director of EY's global assurance practice for accounting. Later she served as professional practice director for EY's U.S. East Region, consulting on accounting and auditing matters. Jeremy Allaire, Circle's co-founder and chief executive, tied the hire to where the company was headed. “She's a tremendously accomplished global leader who brings to Circle's board remarkable expertise in accounting, auditing and risk management,” Allaire said. “Danita will be a great asset to Circle and our leadership team as we continue our journey to become a public company, grow our business and better serve our customers”. Citybiz, in a report dated Oct. 22, 2021, repeated Circle's account of her audit work for large global organizations and high-growth startups2.
Before and after the appointment
Circle's release tied the appointment to the company's path toward a public listing1. Ostling's record outside crypto ran deep. She served on the board and audit committee of Save the Children, the children's charity, alongside her corporate audit work. Her degree, a B.S. in accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, closed out the biography Circle and citybiz both printed2.
What came next
Ostling kept her Circle board seat for years afterward. A Form 4 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed her, still listed as a director, selling 20,000 Class A shares for $1,233,000 on Aug. 7, 20263. The sale left her holding 4,608 shares directly. That filing landed almost five years after she took the audit committee chair in October 2021.
