“Ripple put Nielsen's sitting chief financial officer on its board as audit chair on May 19, 2023, three decades into his career managing the finances of companies like Amazon and Delta Air Lines. Does a board built from established finance executives change how a crypto company gets regulated?”

Ripple announced on May 19, 2023, that Warren Jenson, the chief financial officer of Nielsen, had joined its board of directors1. The company also named Jenson chair of its audit committee, the group that oversees Ripple's financial reporting.

      The appointment

Ripple's announcement pointed to Jenson's decades at large companies. He had managed financial operations at Amazon, Delta Air Lines, NBC, Electronic Arts and Nielsen, Ripple said1. Jenson also serves on the boards of DigitalOcean and Jobcase. CoinDesk corrected its own report to say Jenson still held the Nielsen CFO job at the time, rather than a past one2.

Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple's CEO, tied the hire to the company's growth. “Ripple is in the midst of unprecedented scale, and Warren's background will be invaluable as Ripple continues to be a responsible global leader in the space,” Garlinghouse said. "Transparency and accountability are core pillars of Ripple's operations."1 Jenson answered in a statement that named the stakes for the industry broadly. “Throughout my career, I've been fortunate enough to join iconic companies driving transformative change in their respective fields, which is why I'm excited to join Ripple at a pivotal time when cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies are increasingly becoming integrated into financial services,” Jenson said. “For cryptocurrency to successfully deliver on its potential to revolutionize traditional financial infrastructure, companies in the space must prioritize transparency.”

      The board Jenson joined

Jenson's seat sat beside three other finance and policy veterans. Ripple named them in its release. Former U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios holds one seat. Former JPMorgan Chase chief regulatory affairs officer Sandie O'Connor holds another, and Albright Stonebridge Group managing director Michael Warren holds the third1. The appointment followed Ripple's purchase of Metaco, a Swiss crypto custody firm, for $250 million, CoinDesk reported. CoinDesk called the deal part of a plan "to diversify its services and expand globally, amidst U.S. regulatory challenges."2

      What came next

Jenson kept the Ripple seat while his day job changed twice. A Sierra Space announcement on Sept. 23, 2026 named him chief financial officer of Polymarket and listed Ripple, DigitalOcean and Dropbox among his current board seats, with Nielsen now a past role rather than his sitting one3. That announcement named him audit chair at DigitalOcean and Dropbox and left his Ripple audit chair, the title he took on May 19, 2023, unmentioned1.
