The move
DCG's own announcement framed the hire as a leadership addition. “We are delighted to announce that @AimieKilleen is joining DCG as our Chief Legal Officer on 5/1, bringing extensive legal expertise in the fintech sector and beyond to our executive leadership team. Welcome aboard, Aimie!” the company wrote on X1. DCG founder and CEO Barry Silbert called her a strategic partner. “With her extensive experience and global insight, Aimie will be an invaluable partner in supporting our strategic objectives to drive our business forward,” Silbert said in a statement Crowdfund Insider quoted2.
Killeen answered in her own statement. “I am honored to join DCG during a transformative era in finance and technology as the industry continues to gain momentum,” Killeen said2. She pointed to the company's standing in the field. “DCG holds an impressive leadership role in the digital assets sector and I am eager to support the company's growth plans as we accelerate the development of decentralized technology to advance society globally,” she said.
DCG's legal backdrop
Killeen holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honors and a Bachelor of Business e-Commerce from the University of Technology, Sydney, Crowdfund Insider reported2. Her new employer came to the hire fifteen months after its Genesis subsidiary filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2023, following the collapse of FTX. DCG, Genesis and Genesis creditor Gemini had reached a February 2023 agreement on recoveries for Genesis creditors. Silbert founded DCG in 2015. DCG counts Grayscale Investments, Foundry and Luno among its subsidiaries, Crowdfund Insider reported. Its own description names more than 200 companies backed in 35-plus countries.
What the record shows
DCG's own post and Crowdfund Insider's report both place Killeen's hire inside a run of legal pressure on the firm. The Genesis bankruptcy and creditor settlement were still active in the spring of 20242. Both sources describe the role as part of DCG's executive leadership team, reporting to a company still built around Silbert's position as founder and chief executive1.
