“One Bitcoin ETF took in $854 million in October while eleven others lost $945 million. Is one fund's month a sign of demand for all of them?”

BlackRock's IBIT took in $854.4 million in October while the other eleven US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $945.0 million1. That left all twelve funds down $90.6 million for the month through Oct. 19.

One fund carried the group, and even that left the total lower. The numbers cover 13 trading sessions, and a single session did most of the work.

The CryptoLately.com Desk read the open daily table from The Commoner Bitcoin ETF Tracker, which builds it from SoSoValue and issuer disclosures1. A net flow is the dollar value of shares created minus shares redeemed. All twelve funds held $105.46 billion in net assets at the Oct. 19 close, and they have taken in $57.37 billion since the first session in January 2024.

One Fund Took the Money

Three funds gained in October and eight lost money1. Fidelity's FBTC lost the most, at $555.7 million.

ARK and 21Shares' ARKB gave back $214.9 million, and Grayscale's GBTC lost $133.8 million.

The smaller funds lost less. Bitwise's BITB lost $50.0 million and Invesco and Galaxy's BTCO lost $8.3 million, while VanEck's HODL lost $4.8 million. Grayscale's BTC lost $4.0 million, CoinShares' BRRR lost $2.1 million and WisdomTree's BTCW stayed flat.

Morgan Stanley's MSBT came second to IBIT, with $24.0 million in new money1. Franklin Templeton's EZBC added $4.7 million. IBIT's $854.4 million is more than thirty times the next-best fund.

IBIT held $66.86 billion in net assets on Oct. 20, with 1.43 billion shares outstanding and a net asset value of $46.66 a share, BlackRock's own page shows2. The page says shares outstanding reflect positions as of the prior day.

One Monday Supplied 78 Percent of the Gain

On Monday, Oct. 19, IBIT took in $665.2 million, which is 78 percent of its October total1. The Oct. 19 inflow was IBIT's biggest of 2026, ahead of the $648.4 million IBIT took in on Jan. 14.

All twelve funds together took in $526.6 million on Oct. 19. FBTC lost $83.6 million and GBTC lost $54.9 million on the same Monday1.

Take Oct. 19 out and the month reads very differently. IBIT's October gain drops to $189.3 million. All twelve funds together are down $617.2 million1.

IBIT took in money on 8 of the 13 sessions. Its two best days before the spike came on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, with $195.6 million and $158.2 million. Then came a $207.7 million outflow on Oct. 71. A second tally matches the table on Oct. 7 and on Oct. 193.

Grouped by week, the pattern is plain: IBIT gained $353.8 million on Oct. 1 and 2, gained $1.1 million over Oct. 5 to 9, and lost $165.4 million over Oct. 12 to 161. Then Monday came.

The Case That Institutions Are Steady

CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju argues that big holders calm the market4. “I expect this Bitcoin bull cycle to deliver 3–5x rather than another 10x+ parabolic rally, followed by a milder bear market,” Ju wrote on Sept. 23.

His reasoning is about size. Institutional ownership and a larger total value limit how much each new dollar moves the price in percentage terms4.

Dominick John, an analyst at Zeus Research, said the flows suggest institutional demand is holding up. He said sellers at resistance absorbed the ETF buying3. Market commentator Luke Martin noted that the last IBIT inflow this size came ahead of bitcoin's strong run in August.

BlackRock is also building on IBIT. On Oct. 19 it filed for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF, ticker PBIT3. PBIT is an actively managed options fund based on IBIT that caps the upside in return for some downside protection.

      The Case for Caution

Rekt Capital, a trader and analyst, read the Oct. 19 weekly close through the price chart5. Bitcoin's weekly close came in at $82,000. “Such a Weekly Close would position Bitcoin for a potential bearish retest of ~$82500 into new resistance. And if that bearish retest occurs successfully then it could set price up for a drop below $80k within the next few weeks,” he wrote in analysis on X.

Min Jung, an associate researcher at Presto Research, said it is unclear why IBIT is buying. Bitcoin has traded in a range while other risk assets sit near all-time highs. Investors may be making a "catch-up trade," Jung said3.

Each side needs something to hold. The steady-institutions case needs IBIT's inflows to continue past single days. Those inflows would also have to outweigh the money leaving Fidelity's FBTC and ARK's ARKB1. The caution case needs sellers to cap the price near $82,500, as Rekt Capital describes5.

      What to Do

Check the full daily table before you trust a headline about one session. A $665.2 million Monday sounds large until you see the $617.2 million gap in the twelve sessions before it1.

Look at all twelve funds together. IBIT's $854.4 million gain sits beside $945.0 million in losses at its eleven peers1.

Confirm any flow figure you see against the open table or the fund's own page. BlackRock lists shares outstanding and net assets for IBIT, so you can check them yourself2.

      By the numbers

      • All twelve funds: down $90.6 million across 13 sessions through Oct. 19, 20261.
      • IBIT: up $854.4 million over the same period1.
      • The other eleven funds: a combined loss of $945.0 million1.
      • IBIT on Oct. 19: an inflow of $665.2 million, or 78 percent of its October total1.
      • Fidelity's FBTC: the largest loss of the twelve, at $555.7 million1.
      • ARK and 21Shares' ARKB: a loss of $214.9 million1.
      • Grayscale's GBTC: $133.8 million out1.
      • Morgan Stanley's MSBT: second to IBIT, with $24.0 million in1.
      • IBIT's net assets: $66.86 billion on Oct. 20, 20262.
      • Combined net assets: $105.46 billion for all twelve funds at the Oct. 19 close1.

      What to watch

The table's Oct. 20 row comes next. One report put IBIT's Oct. 20 inflow at $29.86 million, but the table ends on Oct. 19 and that report was out of reach for The CryptoLately.com Desk, which treats the figure as unconfirmed. If it holds, it equals about 4.5 percent of Monday's $665.2 million1.

BlackRock's PBIT filing also bears following, to see whether the fund launches3. So does FBTC, whose $555.7 million October loss is six times the group's $90.6 million shortfall1.
