“Ledger put Oded Blatman in charge of both its technology and its security on September 9, 2026, after crypto firms lost $1.4 billion to hacks in a year, by its chief technology officer's count. Can a merged command structure outpace attacks that already move at machine speed?”

Oded Blatman joined Ledger on September 9, 2026, as chief information officer and chief security officer. The hardware wallet maker merged two jobs it had kept apart, the company said on its own blog1. Blatman reports to Pascal Gauthier, Ledger's chairman and chief executive. His job now covers cyber security, product security through Ledger's research team the Donjon, physical security, risk management and internal IT.

Blatman spent five years in the same combined role at Fireblocks, the crypto infrastructure firm. He built its global security team there, Ledger's announcement said1. Before that, Blatman ran security at Bank Hapoalim, Israel's largest bank. He held the same dual role at ClickSoftware through its sale to Salesforce. CryptoBriefing reported that crypto firms lost $1.4 billion to hacks and exploits over the year before the appointment, a number the outlet credits to Ledger's chief technology officer, Charles Guillemet2.

Why Ledger merged the two roles

Gauthier framed the hire around the speed of the threat Ledger says it faces. “Security is Ledger's core proposition, and the threat environment is moving faster than at any point in this industry's history,” Gauthier said. He added that “very few people anywhere have run security in our industry at this scale”1. Blatman put his own mandate in similar terms. “I joined Ledger to connect product security, enterprise technology and resilience, and to help build the trust infrastructure for what comes next,” Blatman said.

CryptoBriefing placed the hire inside a run of security moves at Ledger. The outlet reported that Ledger released an AI tool called Cerberus on September 4, 2026, to scan for flaws, five days before naming Blatman. Ledger and rival Trezor jointly called for disclosure rules on critical flaws on September 7, 2026. That was two days before Blatman's September 9 appointment, CryptoBriefing reported2. The outlet also reported that Ledger rolled out an AI security plan in April 2026. That plan includes a "Proof of Human" check slated for the fourth quarter of 2026. The check is built to confirm a real person, rather than an AI agent or deepfake, is behind a sensitive transaction.

      What to watch

Ledger points to its own event, Ledger OP3N, on October 15, 2026. The event, Ledger says, holds the biggest set of announcements in its history, five weeks after Blatman's September 9 hire1. Ledger's "Proof of Human" check, described in CryptoBriefing's report, is due in the fourth quarter of 2026. A working launch would test whether Blatman's merged role produces a real product, rather than just a reorganized title2.
