Mike Novogratz bought more Galaxy stock through Thursday's selloff, while one crash post topped the day's own tracked loss total.

“"In just 60 minutes, $2.5 TRILLION has been wiped from US stocks, while another $150 BILLION has been erased from crypto," Crypto Rover posted at 16:24 UTC on Nov. 5, 2026. KuCoin's own count, filed near four hours later, put the entire day's crypto loss at $120 billion. Did a 60-minute guess outrun every tracker built to check it?”

Crypto Rover posted an alarm on X at 16:24 UTC on Nov. 5, 2026. US stocks had just lost $2.5 trillion in one hour, he said. Crypto lost another $150 billion in that same hour, he added1. Mike Novogratz read the same hour differently. He spent it buying more stock in his own company, Galaxy Digital6.

The Viral Number and the Real Four Hours

Crypto Rover writes as a trader and chart poster on X. His following runs past a million people. Thursday's post used one word first: crash.

“In just 60 minutes, $2.5 TRILLION has been wiped from US stocks, while another $150 BILLION has been erased from crypto,” Crypto Rover wrote. "It's an absolutely bloodbath," he added1.

Crypto Rover's Nov. 5 post claimed $150 billion in crypto losses inside 60 minutes, a number faster than any tracker the CryptoLately.com Desk opened could confirm for that span.Post by Crypto Rover (@cryptorover) on X, Nov. 5, 2026

The post picked up 14,655 likes by the next morning. That post drew 1,380 replies and quotes too, as of 00:08 UTC on Nov. 61. Crypto Rover had company in the number. Ash Crypto posted the identical $2.5 trillion figure that same hour, and pointed out it would match the entire size of the crypto market.

A quieter tracker beat him to the story. Crypto Briefing counted a $140 billion crypto loss over four hours, filed at 16:07 UTC, 17 minutes before Crypto Rover's post went up2.

KuCoin ran its own count hours later. The crypto market lost $120 billion for the entire day, KuCoin found, once prices clawed back part of the drop. KuCoin filed that number at 20:13 UTC3.

Crypto Rover's hour alone topped KuCoin's whole day. Every other count the CryptoLately.com Desk opened measured a smaller number, over a longer span. Why would an hourly guess outrun a full day's math? A big scary number travels first. Careful counts travel slower, and they arrive after the panic already spread23.

    What the Selloff Actually Cost

The real numbers still ran large. Liquidations hit $1.09 billion across crypto in 24 hours. Over 211,000 traders got force-sold that same day, The Block reported, at 19:00 UTC4.

Bitcoin fell 6% to $75,700 on Nov. 5, The Block reported. By 00:12 UTC on Nov. 6, it traded at $76,157, per CoinGecko417.

Stocks fell hard everywhere. The Nasdaq dropped 5.5% and closed out its worst day since April 2025. S&P 500 stocks fell 4.3%, and the Dow fell 3.4%5. Chip stocks took the hardest hit of all. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 12%, its worst day since March 2020, and Nvidia fell 9.3%. Gold moved the other way, rising 0.6% to $4,094 an ounce, the safe-haven climb bitcoin usually makes and skipped this time.

    Novogratz Bets Against the Panic

Mike Novogratz runs Galaxy Digital. He posted on X at 18:57 UTC, as his own stock fell through the same selloff6.

He named the cause plainly. Democrats had just swept the week's elections. Traders call that shift a blue wave. “The blue wave has weighed on companies like ours. I get it,” Novogratz wrote6.

The blue wave has weighed on companies like ours. I get it. But let’s not confuse politics with long-term fundamentals.

Finance is moving onchain and demand for AI is exploding. These are generational shifts that will play out across administrations and market cycles.

Novogratz posted this through the same selloff that pushed Galaxy Digital's stock down about 8%, and said he was buying more shares that day.Post by Mike Novogratz (@novogratz) on X, Nov. 5, 2026

Novogratz then drew a line between politics and value. “Finance is moving onchain and demand for AI is exploding. These are generational shifts that will play out across administrations and market cycles,” he wrote6. He pointed to one project as proof. “That includes Texas, where we delivered Helios Phase I on schedule and 800 MW is already leased under long-term contract,” he wrote.

Novogratz's next line carried real money behind it. “I see a massive disconnect between where $GLXY trades and what I believe this company is worth. That's why I'm buying more stock, starting today. I'm betting on us, big time,” he wrote6.

Outside numbers back up the pain he named. Galaxy's stock closed down about 8% on Nov. 5, Crypto Briefing reported7.

Saylor Turns the Crash Into a Statistic

Michael Saylor speaking at the Bitcoin 2025 conference at The Venetian in Las Vegas
Photo 1Michael Saylor at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. He posted his own read of Nov. 5's selloff from Strategy, the company he runs.Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 2.0

Michael Saylor runs Strategy. His firm holds more bitcoin than any other public company. He posted on X at 21:34 UTC, four hours after Novogratz8.

Saylor's words reached for one Greek letter. “Today was a 4σ day for equities. The S&P 500 fell 4.4% and the Nasdaq fell 5.5%, a decline seen roughly once every 19 months. Bitcoin fell about 5%. $STRC closed at $99.56, just 44 cents below par,” he wrote8.

Sigma measures how far a number sits from normal. A four-sigma day is rare by his own math, a once-every-19-months event. Preferred stock like $STRC trades steadier than common shares, and investors treat $100 as its normal resting price.

Saylor's post left one fact out. Strategy's own common stock fell about 10% that same day, a sharper drop than the sigma he chose to measure4. The reach here fits a pattern. A founder who turns a scary day into one clean number gets read fast. That holds even on the day his own stock takes the harder hit.

Two Quieter Stories: Samsung's Wallet and Tether's Pitch

Crypto Rover posted calmer news hours earlier, at 13:20 UTC. Samsung Wallet now holds USDC, a stablecoin built to track one dollar, he wrote. The feature runs on Solana and reaches 82 million Galaxy devices in the US11.

Samsung's own announcement backs the reach. Galaxy users can buy, hold, and send USDC, and cash out to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, The Block reported12. Solana Foundation president Lily Liu described the gap between stablecoin technology and mainstream reach. “For a decade, stablecoins have proved the technology works. What they lacked was a way to reach the mainstream,” she said13.

Tether's chief executive posted his own short line that morning, at 11:05 UTC. Paolo Ardoino wrote three words: "Fly to safety"14.

      Downtown Asunción, Paraguay's capital
Photo 3Downtown Asunción, Paraguay's capital. Paraguay's central bank started resolution proceedings against Ueno Bank days before Tether's chief executive called USDT demand there a flight to safety.Cmasi / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0

He pointed at Paraguay. Ueno Bank, one of the country's largest digital lenders, had its deposits frozen days earlier. Paraguay's central bank started resolution proceedings against it on Nov. 3, after finding its solvency ratio under half the required minimum1516. The bank served about three million customers. Central bank president Carlos Carvallo resigned the same week, and eight people tied to the bank were arrested.

USDT gained more than 5% against Paraguay's guaraní between Oct. 15 and Nov. 4, as depositors moved toward dollar-linked assets, 36Crypto reported15. The stablecoin itself traded near $1.00, at $0.999 as of 00:12 UTC on Nov. 6, per CoinGecko18.

What Peter Schiff Says the Buyers Are Missing

Peter Schiff speaking at an event in Las Vegas, Nevada
Photo 4Economist Peter Schiff, a longtime bitcoin skeptic, called Nov. 5's selloff rational and said to expect more sessions like it.Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 3.0

Economist Peter Schiff reads Nov. 5 differently from Novogratz. He has called bitcoin overpriced for years.

“Yesterday's stock market rally in the face of the Democratic landslide made no sense. In contrast, today's sell-off makes perfect sense,” Schiff said10.

His case names policy as the cause, separate from panic. Wider Democratic control brings bigger government and higher taxes, in his reading, pressure that keeps building after one bad day ends. His read lines up with the week's broader mood. The Nasdaq's slide left it more than 10% below its record close from the month before. That meets Wall Street's own definition of a correction10.

Novogratz read Nov. 5's numbers and bought anyway. Schiff reads it as the start of a longer slide. The two men hold opposite bets on the same selloff, placed hours apart.

      By the numbers

      • Crypto Rover's post claimed $150 billion in crypto and $2.5 trillion in stocks lost in "just 60 minutes"1.
      • A four-hour count from Crypto Briefing put the real crypto loss at $140 billion, filed 17 minutes before Crypto Rover's post2.
      • KuCoin's full-day count found crypto's net loss at $120 billion, filed at 20:13 UTC on Nov. 5, 20263.
      • Liquidations hit $1.09 billion across crypto in 24 hours, catching 211,000 traders, as of 19:00 UTC on Nov. 54.
      • Bitcoin traded at $76,157 as of 00:12 UTC on Nov. 6, 2026, per CoinGecko, after falling 6% the day before417.
      • Galaxy Digital's stock fell about 8%, and Strategy's fell about 10%, on Nov. 5, 202674.
      • Samsung Wallet's USDC feature reached 82 million Galaxy devices in the US, with cash-out in more than 60 countries, as of Nov. 51213.
      • USDT gained more than 5% against Paraguay's guaraní between Oct. 15 and Nov. 4, 202615.

      What to watch

Crypto Rover's next post will say whether he corrects Thursday's hourly figure, or stands by it1. Galaxy's stock price over the coming weeks will test Novogratz's bet against his own math7. Whether Schiff's rational-selloff forecast holds gets tested every session the market stays open10.
