“Patrick Witt left the White House's crypto office on Oct. 14, 2026, the fourth senior leader to go in 14 months. Days later, a shareholder holding nearly 10 percent of SkyAI rejected the price its own board set. Does a market this large still answer to anyone?”

Patrick Witt packed up his White House desk on Oct. 14, 20261. He became the fourth senior leader to leave its crypto office in 14 months. MSCI answered on Oct. 15, 2026, with a new rule2. It could push Strategy out of its own indexes. Days later, a shareholder rejected SkyAI's own buyback price3. Polymarket's investors made its young chief executive repay the company too5. Ten stories below share one plain thread. Someone outside the room kept telling crypto's biggest names what to do.

Witt Leaves, and the Office Empties

Patrick Witt handed in his White House badge on Oct. 14, 20261. He ran the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets. That office steers the CLARITY Act through Congress. Three other senior voices left that same small team before him. Bo Hines went in August 2025. David Sacks went in March 2026. Harry Jung went in July 2026. Witt became the fourth departure in 14 months, counted from Hines' exit. Lindsay Fraser, chief policy officer at the Blockchain Association, praised his tenure in a statement. “The American digital asset industry wouldn't be where it is today without Patrick Witt, who worked at the highest levels of government to make the United States the crypto capital of the world,” she said. The council's director's office stayed vacant once Witt left it.

MSCI Writes Strategy Out of the Index

Index giant MSCI finalized a new rule on Oct. 15, 20262. It screens companies for real operating assets before it allows them into its stock indexes. Strategy, the bitcoin treasury firm Michael Saylor chairs, fits the profile the new rule targets. The rule takes effect Nov. 30. JPMorgan estimates Strategy's removal could trigger $2.8 billion in forced selling. Saylor and Phong Le, Strategy's chief executive, wrote a joint letter calling the rule unfair. “If adopted, the proposal would have no meaningful impact on Strategy's business, but it would profoundly harm MSCI's reputation as a reliable and neutral index provider,” they wrote. MSCI will publish its full list of affected companies on Nov. 11.

    A Shareholder Rejects SkyAI's Price

SkyAI sold the last of its Solana treasury on Oct. 16, 20263. The stake had topped 2 million SOL in September. Its buyback offer, set at $201 million, pays $3 a share and warrant. Bastion Trading, which holds nearly 10 percent of SkyAI's stock, wants $3.50 instead4. The firm asked for an outside review of the SOL sales. It also wants a reshaped board before the deal moves ahead. “Stockholders deserve an independent review of how these arrangements were negotiated, valued and approved, and whether the process adequately protected unaffiliated stockholders,” Bastion Trading said in its filing. SkyAI's own board members had already taken heavy withhold votes at this year's annual meeting.

Polymarket's Investors Make Coplan Pay Up

Founders Fund learned in 2025 that Shayne Coplan, Polymarket's chief executive, billed it private jet flights5. He also billed it his apartment rent. Polymarket was still pre-revenue at the time. Founders Fund demanded repayment first. It also wanted tighter financial controls before it invested at a $1.2 billion valuation. Coplan paid the money back. Polymarket says the flights served business purposes. It says Coplan disclosed them to investors on his own. Alex Spiro, Elon Musk's longtime lawyer, joined Polymarket's four-person board this year. He now helps run daily operations, including hiring. Investors want Coplan running the company the way a listed company's board would expect.

JPMorgan Takes Its Dollar Token to Ethereum

JPMorgan's Kinexys unit moved JPM Coin onto the Ethereum mainnet on Oct. 19, 20266. Big clients get access first. JPM Coin is a deposit token. It is a claim on dollars held at the bank. A stablecoin works differently, backed by reserves a private issuer holds. The token first ran on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer, starting in November 2025. Approved clients can now send it directly within the Ethereum network. JPMorgan picked Ethereum for its deeper liquidity. Big banks already use the network too. The bank already runs two tokenized money-market funds on the same chain.

Mt. Gox Pushes Its Deadline Into 2027

Creditors of the defunct exchange Mt. Gox got a sixth deadline extension, to Oct. 31, 20277. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi said the Tokyo District Court approved the new date. About 34,400 bitcoin, worth near $2.8 billion, still sits unpaid. “Repayments for creditors who finished the required procedures without complications were largely complete, except for certain payment types,” Kobayashi said. Many creditors still have paperwork left to file. A smaller group ran into processing problems. The exchange collapsed in 2014. Some of its creditors are still waiting, twelve years after that collapse.

Ethereum's Staked Supply Sets a Record

Bitwise counted 43.8 million ETH in active validators at the end of the third quarter of 20268. That tally is a record high. It equals 35.9 percent of Ethereum's entire coin supply. Net inflows into staking reached 1.99 million ETH in the quarter. That marked the sixth straight quarter of gains. Yields fell anyway, slipping to 2.63 percent from 2.81 percent the quarter before. More validators are chasing a smaller reward each, and they keep joining regardless.

Stablecoins Move Money Around the Clock

Coinbase and The Block's research arm measured $891 billion in stablecoin transfers last quarter9. That is over four times the pace from early 2023. Seventy-three percent of that volume moved outside normal U.S. banking hours, on nights, weekends and holidays. Seven of the ten largest U.S. banks have already tested stablecoins or tokenized deposits for settlement. The report says stablecoin rails could carry most cross-border payments. That shift could add $155 billion a year to global output. Banks built their clocks around business hours. Stablecoins run on their own schedule.

Blockchain.com Opens a Path to Options

The exchange Blockchain.com launched call and put options on seven tokens on Oct. 20, 202610. Each one expires in a week or less. Traders fund each position in USDC and risk only the premium they pay. A trader must hold each position until it expires. Taro Ugen, Blockchain.com's vice president of consumer, explained the design choice. “We've designed the Blockchain.com options experience around the decisions that matter: where traders think the market is going, when they think it will get there, and how much they are prepared to put behind that view,” Ugen said. Blockchain.com filed for U.S. derivatives licenses earlier this month, the same prize Polymarket and Hyperliquid are chasing too.

Wall Street Asks the SEC for Changes

Comments on the SEC's proposed Regulation Crypto Assets closed Oct. 21, 202611. The window drew more than 100 submissions. Regulation Crypto Assets would exempt smaller token offerings from securities law. Its fundraising path caps that exemption at $75 million a year. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association pushed for earlier investor protections. “The five-year term of the relief heightens the importance of resolving these questions at the outset, since early design choices will shape market practice well before any permanent framework is adopted,” the group wrote. Hyperliquid's policy arm asked for a wider safe harbor on airdrops. Even Wall Street's own trade group wants guardrails before crypto's new exemption opens for business.

        What to watch

Watch whether the White House names a successor to Witt's old desk before the CLARITY Act gets another vote. MSCI publishes its final list of affected companies on Nov. 11, the day Strategy learns whether $2.8 billion in selling pressure actually arrives. Bastion Trading's next move, inside SkyAI's tender window, will show whether a shareholder near 10 percent can still move a board. Blockchain.com's licensing bid lands on regulators' desks within the month. So does the SEC's new comment file.
