Nine companies blocked OKXICE from touching their own stock this week1. The Securities and Exchange Commission had already cleared the venue to trade it3. That gap, between a federal green light and one company's veto, runs under all ten stories today. Circle opened its books on where USDC's money actually goes5. Hacken counted $1.18 billion in hacks last quarter and named the reason6. A bridge lost $727,000 before most traders had breakfast7. Cardano's founder teased what he calls the biggest idea of his career12. Ten stories, one thread: a company, one developer and an analyst each overruled a plan bigger than themselves.

Nine Companies Push Back on OKXICE
OKXICE is the tokenized-stock venture OKX built with NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange. Its Oct. 15, 2026, notice named nine objectors1. Broadcom, CoreWeave, Verizon and UnitedHealth Group lead the list. Applied Optoelectronics gave the plainest reason. Its stock price, liquidity and volatility all sat beyond what the company could predict. A spokeswoman said so, in a statement to The Wall Street Journal. The nine objectors remove about 14 percent of OKXICE's first 63 stocks. Andrew Cuomo, OKXICE's co-chair and a former New York governor, framed the venture's ambition days before the objections landed. “This is a landmark step toward a truly global, 24/7 Wall Street, and toward keeping the future of digital finance anchored here in the United States,” he wrote on X2. Benjamin Schiffrin, director of securities policy at Better Markets, read the SEC's own exemption differently. “The SEC has said that tokenized securities are securities. But that doesn't matter if the SEC is going to exempt tokenized securities from the federal securities laws that protect investors,” he said in a Sept. 17, 2026, statement3. OKXICE says it still plans to list dozens of other companies, Nvidia and Apple among them.

Capital B Books a Bitcoin-Sized Loss
Europe's second-largest corporate bitcoin holder posted a €69.5 million net loss for the first half of 20264. Most of that, €67.5 million, came from marking Capital B's bitcoin down to its June 30 price. Revenue still climbed 3.5 percent, to €5.8 million. The French treasury company kept buying anyway. Its bitcoin reserve reached 3,538 coins by Sept. 30, up 25.3 percent since January. Two capital raises since July added €31.7 million toward more. A falling price shrinks the balance sheet. The bitcoin stack a treasury company reports to its own shareholders only grows.
Circle Shows Its Math
Where does USDC's revenue actually go? Circle spent years fielding that question5. On Oct. 16, 2026, Circle answered with its own numbers. First-half revenue hit $1.4 billion. Partners and transaction costs took $819 million of it. Circle kept 7 cents of every revenue dollar, after $473 million more went to infrastructure and compliance. Kash Razzaghi, Circle's chief operating officer, defended the split as the business itself. “That reinvestment is not overhead. It is what makes USDC useful, and it reflects more than 8 years of building,” he said. USDC carried 77 percent of global stablecoin transaction volume in June 2026, up from 60 percent in June 2025.

A Quarter of Hacks Built on Trust
Hacken counted 107 crypto hacks in the third quarter of 2026, for $1.18 billion in losses6. That is 55 percent more than the prior quarter. Four incidents did most of the damage. Bitget lost $352 million, and Liquid Network lost $319 million. Tectonic lost $75 million, and a Coldcard firmware flaw cost $114 million more. Andrii Matiukhin, Hacken's co-founder, pointed at what an audit badge hides. “The problem is always scope. It's expensive to have enormous scopes of all components that interact with funds or influence economics, and teams cut corners, auditing only critical parts of the service,” he said. A badge reads as a guarantee. Matiukhin's own number, 77 percent of losses tied to gear outside any recent review, reads as a warning instead.

Cysic's Bridge Drains in 76 Minutes
An attacker broke into a database behind Cysic's bridge at 8:31 a.m. ET on Saturday7. The Cysic Foundation said the attacker “gained unauthorized access to a database used by services supporting the bridge and exploited a vulnerability in the relevant processing logic to submit a fraudulent mint message”. Ten million CYS tokens came out of that single message. Seven million sold within 28 minutes. Cysic blacklisted the receiving address by 9:47 a.m., 76 minutes after the first breach. By then $727,000 in ether had already reached a separate wallet. Cysic says existing user deposits stayed untouched.
Two Exchanges Join a West Africa Sweep
Binance and Coinbase joined a police sweep across Ghana and Nigeria this month8. Investigators called it the first joint sweep aimed at West Africa's scam networks. The raids produced 28 arrests and flagged $11 million for potential freezes. Coinbase alone said it caught over $415,000 in losses before they happened, across 65 identified victims. Ghana's share of the operation turned up something harder to put a dollar figure on. Investigators found 117 trafficking victims there, waiting on repatriation to Nigeria. A scam center runs on stolen money. This one also ran on forced labor.

Starknet Asks Its Own Holders to Leave Ethereum
Eli Ben-Sasson, StarkWare's chief executive, opened a seven-day vote on Oct. 15, 20269. The question: should Starknet research leaving Ethereum to become its own quantum-resistant chain? His logic ties Starknet's safety to Ethereum's own pace. “If Ethereum as a layer one is not post-quantum secure, then there's no L2 on Ethereum that is quantum secure,” Ben-Sasson said. Starknet targets full quantum resistance by 2027. Ethereum's own protocol-level target sits two years later, in 2029. A yes vote starts research only. Any real move still needs a separate vote later. Over 272 million STRK had backed research by Thursday afternoon, with 99.9 percent in favor.

Wall Street's Own Analysts Split on $100,000
Bitcoin sat near $81,238 on Oct. 18, 2026, after a week that touched $79,676 on hot inflation data10. Ryan Rasmussen, head of research at Bitwise, kept his year-end case intact. "We believe bitcoin ends the year higher, potentially above $100,000," he said, adding that the tailwinds "significantly outweigh the potential headwinds". Adam Morgan McCarthy, head of research at LO:TECH, read the same macro data as a drag. “Macro has gone against Bitcoin all year, with the Fed hiking in September and a December hike priced at roughly 75 percent,” he said. One trading desk, one price, two professional reads running in opposite directions.
Ethereum's Funds Bleed Faster Than Bitcoin's
Spot Ethereum ETFs lost $320.1 million in the week ending Oct. 16, 202611. Bitcoin ETFs lost $228.4 million over that same stretch. BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust alone gave up $299 million of Ethereum's total, 93 percent of the category's outflow. A fund that lost more money used to be the fund investors trusted more. This week, it was Ethereum's turn to hold that distinction.

Hoskinson Calls His Next Build a Career Capstone
Charles Hoskinson, Cardano's founder, posted a tease on X on Oct. 17, 2026, naming zero products yet12. “I'm working on a concept that only midnight can bring to the cryptocurrency space that solves most of the problems. Almost have all of it designed conceptually. It's the magnum opus of my career,” he wrote. Midnight is Cardano's privacy-focused partner chain, built to let apps protect sensitive data while still meeting regulatory rules13. Hoskinson gave zero technical detail beyond the tease itself. A founder's biggest promise, made in three sentences on a Saturday, still owes the record a working build before it counts as anything more.

What to watch
Watch whether another company on OKXICE's roster files its own objection before the window closes. Circle's reinvestment math will meet its first real test the moment a rival issuer undercuts its margin. Starknet's seven-day vote closes Oct. 22, 2026, and a result past quorum would turn research into an actual roadmap item. Hoskinson's "magnum opus" earns its name only once Cardano ships a working version of it.
Both sides, in their own words
Does one company's objection still settle whether its own stock gets tokenized?
“This is a landmark step toward a truly global, 24/7 Wall Street, and toward keeping the future of digital finance anchored here in the United States”
“The SEC has said that tokenized securities are securities. But that doesn't matter if the SEC is going to exempt tokenized securities from the federal securities laws that protect investors”
