The take

Arthur Hayes helped start BitMEX, a crypto exchange. He now runs Maelstrom, a small trading firm. On Oct. 24, 2026, he sold his whole trading book. "I dumped it all," he wrote on X. He named three tokens he sold. One was ETH, the coin behind Ethereum. One was ENA, from the Ethena project. One was UNI, from the Uniswap app. Hayes gave a short reason for the sale. He called the macro mood dicey and uncertain. Macro means the whole economy. It is bigger than one trade. He said he would wait for calmer days. By Sunday morning, his post had 3,914 likes. It drew 880 replies from other traders. Hayes kept selling after that first post. Trackers watched his wallets move more coins. He kept selling for the next 24 hours. In that stretch, he sold $28.8 million worth. He made $6.65 million in profit. Most of that profit came from ETH and ENA. He broke even on the rest of his coins. Why did this post spread so fast? Hayes carries a big name in crypto circles. A founder admitting this so bluntly stands out. Blunt words move faster than careful ones. What does this say about crypto people today? Big traders can still move on pure fear. Hayes sold first and explained his reasons after. His own dollar total kept climbing for hours. One trade by one name can turn into a trend. Smaller traders often copy what big names do. ETH had fallen hard before his sale too. Traders pointed to a rough week for ether. Ethena's coin, ENA, backs a stablecoin project. A stablecoin is a token pinned to one dollar. Uniswap lets people trade tokens directly. Hayes once cheered on some of these same tokens. Traders noticed his switch from buyer to seller quickly. The wider crypto market wobbled that same weekend. Fear seemed to drive the sale more than charts did. Other big traders watched his wallets just as closely.

The take

Doctor Profit posts trading calls on X. He has said for weeks he likes this price zone. That zone starts near $80,000 for Bitcoin. It runs up to about $81,000. Bitcoin is the oldest and biggest crypto coin. A "long" means a bet that the price will rise. Doctor Profit kept adding to his long bets there. Bitcoin had dropped to that zone more than once. It once slid from $84,000. It fell back under $80,000 again. Some traders mocked him for buying during that dip. He answered them in a new post on X. "Since weeks I'm saying 80-81k is the area I'm adding more longs," he wrote. He said he builds this position for the long term. He also holds older coins bought near $60,000. By Sunday, his post had 3,122 likes. It drew 116 replies from other traders. Bitcoin traded near $80,620 that same Sunday morning. That price sat below its recent highs. U.S. spot Bitcoin funds had seen heavy selling that week. Those funds lost $635.5 million on one single day. They lost another $137.9 million the very next day. Combined, investors pulled $773.4 million from the funds. That selling came right as Doctor Profit kept buying. Why did this post spread so fast? Doctor Profit answered his doubters directly and in public. A public reply to mockery always draws a crowd. His conviction read as calm against a shaky market. What does this say about crypto people today? Big outflows failed to scare every single buyer. Some traders read a dip as a chance. Other traders read the same dip as a warning. Doctor Profit staked his name on his own patience. Time, more than applause, will decide if that patience paid off.

One trader kept buying while outflows hit $773 million, betting patience beats panic.

The take

A giant trader holds ETH and BTC positions. ETH is ether, the coin behind Ethereum. This trader borrowed heavily to make the bet. That kind of bet is called a long position. A long position wins when the price rises. Late Saturday night, ETH fell hard. It dropped to $2,282 at one point. The trader's position sat $30 from forced closing. That forced closing is called a liquidation. A liquidation wipes out a trader's position fast. An analyst named Yu Jin tracks these big wallets. Yu Jin posts online as EmberCN. EmberCN spotted the trader's close call early Sunday. EmberCN said the trader topped up funds just in time. The trader added $9.21 million in USDC. USDC is a stablecoin pinned to one dollar. That extra cash lowered the liquidation price. The new liquidation price moved to $2,181. That gave the trader more room to breathe. By Sunday morning, EmberCN's post had 71 likes. It drew 44 replies from other traders. The trader's full position stayed enormous. It totaled $396.5 million across BTC and ETH. That number covers both coins combined. Why did this post spread so fast? A $30 buffer is razor thin for real money. Traders love watching a near miss play out live. The margin top-up came in the middle of the night. That timing made the rescue feel even more dramatic. What does this say about crypto people today? Huge bets still hide behind anonymous wallets online. One bad hour can erase months of careful planning. The trader survived this time, barely and quietly. This trader's name and face stay hidden. The next price swing could tell a harsher story. Whale watchers call this a near miss story. The chain remembers close calls such as this one.

What it says about us

A trader escaped a $30 margin call by adding $9.21 million at 2 a.m.

The take

Benjamin Netanyahu leads the government of Israel. On Oct. 23, 2026, he spoke to Channel 10. He said Israel might face bank sanctions soon. Sanctions are rules that cut off money deals. Netanyahu said crypto could help Israel dodge them. He named blockchain as one option. A blockchain is a shared list of who owns what. The Bank of Israel answered him in public. It said real trade ties matter more than crypto tricks. crypto.news shared that answer again on X Sunday. By Sunday, that post had 13 likes. The number stayed small next to the story's size. A much bigger reply came two days later. That reply landed on Oct. 25, 2026. A joint letter carried 109 signatures. Two signers are Nobel Prize winners. One studies money, the other studies cells. The group called the plan strange and risky. They said it could hurt Israel for years. Two signers also helped start Fireblocks. Fireblocks is a crypto security firm. It works alongside banks. Crypto insiders joined the pushback too. Opposition leader Yair Lapid spoke out fast. He said the plan admits deep trouble ahead. Why did this post spread so fast? A bank correcting its own leader is rare. The story already carried weight before this post. This post just carried that fight into Sunday. What does this say about crypto people today? Crypto got pulled into a fight over survival. Economists said the move suits outlaw states. Crypto's own builders agreed, and used their names. The vote, more than any post, decides what comes next. Netanyahu has kept his comment on the record. Israelis vote within days. Crypto money moved to the center of this fight. The letter made the fight bigger than before.

What it says about us

Crypto's own builders joined mainstream economists against a plan to dodge sanctions with tokens.
