The move
Chief executive Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad credited Dorner's record inside the company. “Markus has been instrumental in shaping our technology and engineering organisation over the past three years,” Enzersdorfer-Konrad said. “His strategic mindset, leadership skills, and passion for building scalable, reliable systems make him the perfect fit for this role. As CTO, Markus will ensure that technology continues to be our competitive edge as we expand across Europe.”1 Dorner described his own goal in similar terms. “As CTO, my focus is on building the next-generation infrastructure that will power Bitpanda's future and ensure we're ready to scale with our growing community,” Dorner said. “Bitpanda has already accomplished so much in recent years, and I'm proud to continue that journey while pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve.”
Before and after the announcement
Dorner's rise ran through three titles at Bitpanda: director, then vice president of engineering, then CTO. Bitpanda's own post says the climb spanned trading infrastructure, security and scalability work1. Bitpanda tied the promotion to a growth stretch that included a MiCAR license and UK market entry. FX News Group added that Dorner arrived at Bitpanda with CTO experience from Bank99, plus engineering work at Amazon2.
What came next
Finance Magnates reported on March 12, 2026, that Bitpanda's catalog passed 650 digital assets in fiscal year 2025. Bitpanda added margin trading for over 100 crypto assets, staking for over 50, and a new web3 wallet3. Users rose 25 percent that year, to 7.4 million from 5.9 million. Its license list grew too. The UK's Financial Conduct Authority and Dubai's regulator joined its EU-wide MiCA license, Finance Magnates reported. That same report put adjusted EBITDA at €13 million for 2025, down from €52 million in 2024. Enzersdorfer-Konrad called the drop a result of "deliberate, strategic investments" rather than a weaker core business.
