The move
Chief Executive Officer Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad tied the promotion to Edelmann's record inside the company. “I am delighted to have Barbara step into the CFO role. She has been instrumental in transforming our financial operations from within, and her deep internal knowledge of our business and extensive experience make her the ideal leader for our Finance organization as we accelerate into our next phase of growth,” he said1. Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Eric Demuth made the case for promoting insiders over hiring from outside. “I've always believed that our greatest talent should come from within. When a leader grows with a company, shapes its foundations, and consistently delivers, it tells you infinitely more than any external interview process ever could,” Demuth said.
Trending Topics confirmed the timing in its own report on Bitpanda's leadership changes. “Her successor took over in early summer: Barbara Edelmann, who was promoted from within,” the outlet reported. Before and after the promotion
Edelmann joined Bitpanda in 2022, after 16 years at Deloitte1. Larsen, her predecessor, joined as CFO in 2023. He came from Lunar, a Danish neobank, where he had been CFO since 2021. Enzersdorfer-Konrad praised Larsen's three-year run. Larsen had built out finance, risk, compliance, anti-financial-crime and internal audit at the exchange. Enzersdorfer-Konrad called him “instrumental in enabling Bitpanda's growth into a leading European platform for crypto and other digital assets”. Larsen posted his own farewell. Edelmann's promotion was part of Bitpanda's broader reshuffle of its executive committee in 2026, which also added a chief growth officer and a compliance and risk chief2. Watch whether her finance team keeps its roster stable through the CEO succession search the board opened in September 2026. A new chief executive could reshape the committee she sits on.
