The move
Enzersdorfer-Konrad called his choice difficult. Bitpanda and TradeInformer both quoted his statement. “My decision to step down next year was not an easy one. I am proud of what we have built together, and I remain fully committed to leading Bitpanda until my departure. I look forward to driving our strategy with Christian and our teams,” he said12. Trummer moved into the co-CEO job from chief scientist. He named the exchange's founding goal. “Twelve years ago, we founded Bitpanda with a simple conviction: investing should be easier and more accessible. I look forward to leading the company with Lukas and our teams as we continue to make Bitpanda more intuitive and capable, and create more value for the customers and partners we serve,” Trummer said.
Executive Chairman Eric Demuth credited the outgoing chief executive. “Lukas has played a key role in building a more diversified business with strong foundations, and I thank him for his commitment. With Christian as Co-CEO, the company enters this next phase of growth from a position of strength,” Demuth said1. TradeInformer reported Trummer's focus would run toward product. "The executive shift is designed to strengthen the company's product development," the outlet reported. Trummer would work on "expanding Bitpanda's retail offerings" across crypto, stocks, exchange-traded funds and precious metals2.
Before and after the announcement
Bitpanda's board opened its search for a successor on September 15, 2026, and said it would weigh both internal and external candidates1. Enzersdorfer-Konrad had run Bitpanda alone since Demuth moved to the board on November 3, 2025. Trummer co-founded the exchange in 2014 with Demuth and Paul Klanschek. He had most recently served as chief scientist, building its technology2. Bitpanda's own release said the exchange now serves more than 7 million users, with more than 650 crypto assets on offer alongside stocks and metals.
What to watch
Watch the board's succession search over the months ahead of the Q1 2027 target. Bitpanda could name an insider, the path it took with Barbara Edelmann's promotion to chief financial officer in June 2026. An outside hire is the other path1.
