“Eric Demuth, who ran Bitpanda as co-CEO for more than a decade, handed the title to Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad on November 3, 2025, and took the board chair instead. Does stepping back from daily operations change how fast a company he still shapes can grow?”

Bitpanda announced on November 3, 2025, that Eric Demuth would leave his role as co-chief executive. He took the title Executive Chairman and President of the Board of Bitpanda Group AG, the Swiss holding company, after more than a decade leading the exchange1. Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad became sole chief executive on November 3, 20252.

      The move

Demuth called the handoff a continuation of his work. “Over the past ten years, Bitpanda has evolved from a bold idea into one of Europe's most trusted digital investment platforms. As we enter the next phase of our global journey, I remain fully involved in shaping Bitpanda's strategy and expansion,” he said1. He named the work his new title would carry. “In my new role as Executive Chairman and President of the Board I'll continue to work closely with Lukas and our teams to push the company forward, strengthen our strategic foundation, and ensure Bitpanda remains a driving force of financial innovation in Europe and beyond,” Demuth said.

Enzersdorfer-Konrad credited his predecessor for the platform's growth. “Eric's vision and growth mindset have been and continue to be fundamental to Bitpanda's success. As he transitions into his new role as Executive Chairman, we'll continue working closely together to execute our global growth strategy and make investing simple, secure, and accessible for everyone, everywhere,” he said1. Silicon Canals reported Demuth had served as CEO for 11 years before the change2.

      Before and after the handoff

Demuth co-founded Bitpanda in 2014 with Paul Klanschek and Christian Trummer. Silicon Canals called it "a bold Austrian startup" that grew into a platform serving millions of users and institutional partners2. Bitpanda's own announcement called the transition a sign of maturity, pointing to "robust governance, strong leadership, and ambitious global vision"1. Enzersdorfer-Konrad took sole responsibility for daily operations as chief executive. Demuth's new title gave him oversight of long-term strategy and global expansion from the board level.

      What to watch

Enzersdorfer-Konrad ran Bitpanda as sole chief executive for about ten months. On September 15, 2026, he said he would leave, and Trummer became co-CEO. The next test for Demuth's board role arrives with that transition. Watch whether the succession search the board opened in September 2026 settles on an internal or an external candidate, and what part Demuth plays in that choice as chairman.
