The move
Frederik Gregaard, the Cardano Foundation's chief executive, called the hire a milestone. “Adding Giorgio to the executive team as our first CTO is a significant milestone for the Foundation that marks our commitment to technical excellence,” Gregaard said1. Zinetti answered with his own read of the job ahead. “The innovative and important work of the Cardano Foundation is helping to drive forward one of the most exciting technologies in the world,” Zinetti said. “As the Foundation's CTO, it will be an honor to continue the great work of enhancing the Cardano blockchain's operational resilience, ensuring we remain at the forefront of technological advancement amidst an intensely competitive global environment”. Crypto Times framed the appointment as a step meant to improve Cardano's product development and strengthen its standing in the blockchain industry2.
Before and after at the Foundation
The Cardano Foundation had left the chief technology officer seat vacant for years, even as it managed a growing pipeline of blockchain products1. Zinetti's background filled that gap. The release pointed to an MSc in computer science. Its text also credited Zinetti with steering teams across different geographies, work that grew out of enterprise architecture for government and financial-sector clients. Gregaard called the new seat a mark of the Foundation's "commitment to technical excellence".
What came next
Zinetti's tenure ran about two years and four months. Crypto Briefing reported on Aug. 10, 2026, that Zinetti had announced his departure, effective Aug. 31, 20263. The outlet said he tied the exit in part to upcoming parental leave. He called it a personal decision, the outlet reported, separate from any professional disagreement. The successor question stayed open as of Crypto Briefing's report. Senior leaders already at the Foundation would carry the transition instead.
