Core Scientific named Mark W. Adams to its Board of Directors on July 29, 20261. The appointment took effect immediately and grew the board to seven directors. Core Scientific trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker CORZ and announced the move in a Business Wire release. Adams spent three decades in technology leadership, the release said, across AI infrastructure, semiconductors, storage and enterprise hardware.

The move
Core Scientific's chief executive, Adam Sullivan, named the experience he expects Adams to bring. “Mark brings an exceptional combination of technology leadership and operational expertise to our Board,” Sullivan said. “Throughout his career, he has successfully scaled complex global businesses, led strategic transformations and helped companies capitalize on shifts in demand for computing infrastructure. His deep experience across AI infrastructure, semiconductors and data storage will be highly relevant as we continue expanding our high-density data center platform and strengthening our foundation for growth.”1
Adams described his own reason for joining in the same release. “Core Scientific is operating at the forefront of the AI infrastructure market, developing the critical capacity needed to support the growth of advanced computing,” he said. “I am excited to join the Board and support the important work already underway to expand the Company's platform, deepen customer relationships and deliver durable value for shareholders.”1
AOL carried the identical Business Wire release on July 29, 2026, the same day it posted to Core Scientific's own investor site2.
Adams' record before Core Scientific
Adams ran Penguin Solutions, Inc. as president and chief executive officer from 2020 until 2026, the release said1. Penguin Solutions was formerly named SMART Global Holdings, Inc.. Under Adams, it shifted toward AI infrastructure over several years. That shift included memory solutions and IT services for enterprise and hyperscale customers. Before Penguin, Adams spent ten years at Micron Technology, Inc.. He held senior roles there, including four years as president.
Two other public boards already carry his name. The release said he has served as a director of Seagate Technology Holdings Public Limited Company since 2024 and of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. since 20151. His degrees come from two schools: an MBA from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from Boston College.
Core Scientific builds and runs large data centers for AI customers, the release said1. Most of its revenue now comes from that colocation business. The rest comes from digital assets the company mines on its own and from hosting mining work for other firms. Its old mining sites are being turned into colocation space where conditions allow, the release said.
What to watch
Adams joins a board that is turning mining sites into AI data centers1. His own time at Penguin Solutions was the same kind of switch, from memory chips toward AI work. Core Scientific's next filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission will show if that record pays off in new colocation deals. Sullivan tied Adams' board seat to growth of "our high-density data center platform". The test is simple: does Core Scientific name new colocation customers or converted sites in the months after his July 29, 2026 appointment?
