The move
eToro co-founder and chief executive officer Yoni Assia tied the appointments to the company's new status as a listed company. “As eToro enters this new chapter as a Nasdaq listed company, we are delighted that Laura Unger and Lior Shemesh will join eToro's Board,” Assia said in the filed release1. Unger answered in her own words. “I'm pleased to join eToro's Board at such an exciting moment for the company and for the investing landscape more generally,” Unger said. “At a time when the pace of technological innovation is accelerating, I'm thrilled to be joining a company which prides itself on being at the forefront of compliant innovation.”
Shemesh spoke to the same moment from his own background. “I've spent years in the technology space and am deeply impressed by eToro's commitment to harnessing technology to empower individual investors around the world,” Shemesh said, and said he looked forward “to working with the Board and eToro's leadership team to support the company's mission and help drive its continued growth and success”1.
Before and after at eToro
Unger arrived with a long record in financial regulation. She served as a commissioner and acting chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, and the release described her financial services and governance career running two decades1. Shemesh had served as chief financial officer of Wix since 2013, and the release credited him with a track record "shaping and leading the financial strategy and operations for technology companies". He had also served on the board of Aspen Group Ltd. from July 2012 to June 2021, including its compensation and financial statements committees, the release said.
Finance Magnates placed the appointments inside a wider story about eToro's May 2025 stock market debut2. The outlet reported that eToro had secured a $250 million facility and noted analysts' expectations for the shares, framing the board additions as part of the company's post-IPO build-out.
What came next
On April 21, 2026, eToro filed a proxy statement that put Unger up for re-election as a Class I director, to serve until its 2029 annual meeting3. The same proxy listed Shemesh as a Class II director still on the board. Shareholders approved every proposal in that proxy at eToro's annual meeting on May 26, 2026, the company told the SEC on May 29, 20264.
