Lewis had joined IREN only two months earlier, in July 2025, as chief capital officer. In that role he led the company's capital markets strategy and financing activities, the filing said. He succeeded Belinda Nucifora, who departed after 3.5 years as CFO, according to the same filing.

The move
Daniel Roberts, IREN's co-founder and co-chief executive, credited Lewis with work that preceded the formal title change. “He has already contributed to the accelerated expansion of our AI Cloud business, having overseen our recently announced GPU financings, and is leading the continued evolution of our capital structure to support our growth trajectory,” Roberts said in the filing1. Roberts added that Lewis's “deep expertise in capital markets and financial management makes him ideally suited to lead our combined finance and capital markets function”. The Globe and Mail syndicated a TipRanks report on September 92. That report said the appointment was “expected to support the company's growth trajectory in its AI cloud business and capital structure evolution”.
Lewis arrived at IREN after 22 years at Macquarie Group, the filing said1. He most recently served there as co-treasurer, responsible for global funding, liquidity, capital management, and group financial planning and regulatory reporting. His new role at IREN kept his existing capital markets duties and added financial operations, reporting, and strategic planning.
IREN before and after
Nucifora's departure closed a period the company credited with structural change. Roberts said she had been “instrumental in strengthening our systems and controls, enhancing processes, and overseeing the transition to U.S. GAAP reporting”1. Her work had "laid strong foundations" for what followed, he added. IREN describes itself in the same filing as an operator of data centers split across Bitcoin mining, AI cloud services and AI data centers. Its sites run on 100% renewable energy across the U.S. and Canada, the filing said.
What came next
Lewis still held the combined role in late August 2026. IREN held an earnings call for its fiscal 2026 results on August 27, 2026, according to a transcript Investing.com published3. Lewis told analysts the company had "secured circa $19 billion in funding" over the prior 12 months. That total split between roughly $16 billion in customer prepayments, GPU financing and convertible notes, and about $3 billion in equity, he said. He also guided IREN's capital spending for fiscal 2027 to between $25 billion and $30 billion. The figure covered contracted Microsoft capacity, additional deployments, and new liquid-cooled data centers at Childress and Sweetwater One, he told analysts.
