“Blockchain.com, a crypto company that started in 2011, split its top job in two on November 17, 2025, naming Lane Kasselman co-CEO in Dallas beside founder Peter Smith in London. Does splitting the chief executive role put the whole company in either leader's hands?”

Blockchain.com named Lane Kasselman co-chief executive on November 17, 2025, the same day founder Peter Smith announced the firm's new U.S. headquarters in Dallas1. Smith will keep the chief executive title and run the company from London, while Kasselman leads from Dallas, Smith wrote in the announcement. The Block reported that Blockchain.com was planning to go public in 2026, citing The Information2.

      The move

Smith framed the change as a promotion from within. “I'm incredibly proud to announce that Lane Kasselman will now serve as Co-CEO of Blockchain.com. I will transition to serve as Executive Chairman and CEO from our global HQ in London, while Lane will lead from our new US headquarters in Dallas,” Smith wrote1. Kasselman had joined the company as a strategic advisor in 2015 before holding the chief business officer and president titles, Smith's post said.

Kasselman answered in his own statement. “Since joining Blockchain.com as a strategic advisor and team member, I've always believed in the company's mission to make economic freedom accessible to all. This has guided every decision. As Co-CEO, I'm focused on using our strengths to accelerate adoption, expand globally, and ensure user trust and confidence,” Kasselman said1. The Block reported the split along job lines. Smith keeps engineering and product work. Kasselman runs capital markets, operations and brand2.

      Blockchain.com before and after

The Block reported that Blockchain.com launched the first Bitcoin block explorer in 2011 and moved its U.S. headquarters from New York to Miami in 20212. Board director Tom Horton backed the new structure in Smith's announcement. “Over nearly a decade, Lane has been a driving force behind the company's strategic vision and growth,” Horton said. “His leadership will continue to strengthen the company's position across capital markets, business, operations, legal and public policy”1. Smith wrote that the two-CEO structure spread leadership across two cities and covered the company's markets around the clock.

      What to watch

Smith's case needs results before a 2026 share sale. The Block cited that plan from The Information, with its date still open2. A filing that names both executives by title would show the structure held. Two numbers would back it up: the headcount in Dallas, and how the job split holds between Smith and Kasselman.
