The move
Leverton framed the hire around governance. “Aniss is going to be an excellent addition to Hut 8's seasoned, dynamic executive team,” Leverton said in the June 21, 2022, release1. She went further on what the job covers: “Aniss' vast experience and leadership acumen will ensure that Hut 8 continues to operate with integrity and transparency while consistently elevating our governance and compliance processes, which will truly differentiate us in a nascent, rapidly evolving industry,” Leverton said. Hut 8 described itself in the same release as “one of North America's largest, innovation-focused digital asset mining pioneers, supporting open and decentralized systems since 2018”.
Amdiss described his own goal in a statement Law.com quoted, saying he aims to help the company “grow as a leader in both the digital asset mining and high-performance computing spaces”2. Law.com's reporting named the specific company Amdiss was leaving, a detail Hut 8's own release left out.
Before and after at Hut 8
Hut 8 traded on the Nasdaq and the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker HUT at the time. It was based in Toronto, and Amdiss worked from the same city1. His new role combined two functions in one hire. Amdiss took on the top legal job and the corporate secretary post together, both reporting directly to Leverton. Before Hut 8, Amdiss worked in legal and compliance roles outside crypto mining, most recently at Greenbrook TMS, Law.com reported2. Hut 8's release left the chief legal officer role's prior occupant unnamed, and said only that Amdiss would take on the legal and governance work going forward.
What the record shows
Hut 8's June 21, 2022, release and Law.com's June 22, 2022, report both name Amdiss as chief legal officer and corporate secretary, reporting to Leverton12. A Google News search on October 3, 2026, looked for a later page on Amdiss at Hut 8. That search returned the June 2022 announcement and a June 22, 2022 Canadian Lawyer report on the same hire.
